Butler never actually addresses this thesis and this is my reason for the two stars. He seems to ramble about the influence of Goddess religions in the Craft and in society, but never really ties the two together. His thinking is scrambl|About the Author|Alan Butler has co-written two important books on the Knights Templar and the Cistercians, the recent Civilization One, and is the author of The Goddess, The Grail & The Lodge (O books). He lives in bridligton, Yorkshire in the UK.

This is the story of the battle between the orthodox Catholic Church and Freemasonry, itself the most modern manifestation of a much older religious conflict between patriarchal and matriarchal views of godhead.
